Heavy Haul & Oversized Trucking
Learn what it takes to drive heavy haul and oversized trucking loads in a safe and responsible manner.
Our requirements for enrolling in this training are as follows:
- A valid CDL license
- Drop deck or flat bed experience
- Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and no criminal driving record (this means no crimes involving the use of a motor vehicle; drugs, driving under the influence of drugs / alcohol, or a hit & run that resulted in injury or death of another person)
The training curriculum includes the following subjects:
- Tarping of loads
- Chaining theory and techniques
- Use of web strapping and winches
- Bridge formulas
- How to drive oversize loads with pilot car escort vehicles and law enforcement escorts
- Pilot car do’s and don’ts – their part in the move
The training curriculum also includes the following types of trailers discussed:
- Regular flat bed 40, 48 and 53 foot lengths
- Expandable flat bed trailers
- Drop deck and expandable telescopic trailers
- Double drop low boy RGN 2- or 3-axle trailers
- 115′ expandable flat bed
- 6- and 9-axle high-tonnage double drop expandable floor deck
- 10- and 13-axle high ton
